Port Douglass

Just a couple of hours south from Daintree, Port Douglass could not be more different. Smart and sophisticated, full of green lawns, palm trees and swanky hotels, we quite like it for a change. Excellent restaurants too, our first taste of kangeroo, now we're.................

Our B&B is lovely, with great hosts Frieda and Colin (a £10 pom). Breakfast kept us going all day, homemade yoghurt, and a dozen different types of tropical fruits were the highlights. Nice pool and white lipped tree frog staying too.

The highlight here was a day spent at the Mossman Gorge, firstly on an Aboriginal forest walk, learning about culture, lifestyle and modern living from our guide Rodney! Followed by a hike and then a swim in the river.

Rodney and the body painting

We finally got to see a Cassowary, although not in the wild, amazing creature and very dangerous.

The crocodile farm was also good, as was the drive through the Atherton tablelands.

Spotted Quoll

Saw-Shell Turtle

Agile Wallaby

Fresh Water Croc, smaller and only live in rivers
Blue Winged Kookaburra

Laughing Kookaburra

Glossy Ibis

We’re excited to be picking up our camper tomorrow. Hottest so far up to 35, cooled of with a swim in the sea, it.s so warm, quite strange. Swam inside the croc/stinger nets though, not that brave!
